You might have gotten this question before so if you did you can ignore this lol-

But how did you choose who would be androids and who wouldn't?

for me when it comes to AU's based on something it's always hard to choose. So I'm just curious haha

OOH no this is a really good question honestly! I kind of just looked at majors 'pairs' (usually, but not always, based around ships or popular duos) of hermits (specifically from s8, since that's when the au started) and picked the one that i personally thought would be more fun to undergo a characterization process where part of that journey would be coming into one's emotions and stuff... like, for example, for ethubs it seemed more fun to have etho break out of his programming and grow into his awkward silly stoic self, and it seemed more fun to have bdubs be the stubborn human of the two--it just seemed like the most enjoyable way to engage with their dynamic for the au. I kind of just followed that line of thinking for all of the pairs, if that makes sense!

In hindsight, I did realize that looking at hermitcraft in groups of two or three and then picking one from each grouping to be an android for the au made it so that basically half of the server would be androids, meaning over the course of two seasons the cast of hermitcraft essentially doubled, and I'm not sure if I would change things were I to start over, but it certainly makes things interesting in a way that I didn't really anticipate!

I've also gotten a couple of asks over the years wondering if me choosing all of the red stone-adjacent hermits to be androids was on purpose, and honestly, no! It's just kind of a weird coincidence that it happened that way. I kinda just went with vibes and did what i thought would be most fun, most fitting, or most interesting for any plot or dynamic ideas I wanted to run with :]

synopsis: a wealthy French-Japanese student by the name of Kokone enrolls in the CV trio's school, and tries to rope them into starring in a new commercial for her family's chocolate company. meanwhile, the Canine Bandits Dex and Daina sneak into the production looking to kidnap Kokone for their own ends.

People give him a lot of shit for "being a bad father" but i don't think they realize how hard it actually is to have an android kid.

It's fucking hard to be a parent. That's just a fact of life. Ask anyone who has kids. But imagine if your child also has enough physical strength to stop a moving car with one hand and can think about 10 000 things faster than you blink. But they still have trouble regulating their emotions. They still new to life, everything is new to them. You have to explain things to them, you have to teach them everything. But their brain is something so complicated and difficult, how can you even know that conventional methods will work on them? Do you have to go back and make adjusments to their programming or is it a matter of finding the right words to explain a very complicated subject in a way they would understand? Is their brain capable of comprehending this particular thing? It's your job to find out!

You live in a colony so you're a part of a community and so is your child. If a one year old human child has a tantrum and hits someone, that's totally normal. But what if an android does that? Everyone in your community would be terrified cause they'd think you built that "evil robot" from horror movies and they would want to burn your android (and probably you) on a stake. In fact, even if your child just says something weird or misinterprets a social que, people might become wary of them. So you have to make sure that no accidents happen. It's tricky to keep an eye on a little human all the time, but your child is faster and stronger than any human adult.

There's no parenting book about all of that, cause you made an entirely new type of creature. Problems so unique that no one ever even thought of them become a part of your daily life. And you have to deal with it, you have to figure it out because you CHOSE this fate. You couldn't possibly imagine how this will turn out, because no one has ever done that before. But you still made that choice. You chose to bring a new kind of life to this world. Of course, you could've just built the android, taken all the credit and called it a day. You could've secured a future and a good reputation for yourself. You could've made integrating them into human society and helping them develop someone else's problem. But you didn't. You chose to be there every step of the way. You could've stayed just a scientist. You chose to become a parent. Now you have a child and you're responsible for them. If anything bad happens, it will be your fault. Good luck.

okay i understand that we're going for comedy but i cant help myself here

so double life is the third life series, and in the canon of the life series, dl is the first time joel has gotten a partner and has not been alone (i could go on and on about how that affects his relationship with etho but we don't have the time for that)

but in dbhc, he gets what is essentially a robot as a partner, devoid of human affection and intimacies (at least for now), after 3rd life where he had no team, and last life, where his team was broken on the second episode

(rest assured, when joel finds out how jealous Bdubs is of him being partnered with etho, he goes from annoyed to delighted and finds many a way to have fun with Etho despite Etho not really being... himself. He at least has a good time because Etho is more or less there to agree with his plans and go along with whatever he wants to do DSFLKGJSDF)
